（４）日本の梅雨が初めてのトムさん。ジメジメしたお天気にちょっと元気がないようです。

Tom: Hello, isoko. How are you?
(こんにちは磯子さん。元気ですか？)
Isoko: Hi Tom, I’m fine, how are you?
(トムさんこんにちは。元気ですよ、トムさんは元気ですか？)
Tom: Not so great.
(あんまり元気じゃないです。)
Isoko: Oh, why is that?
(え、なぜですか？)
Tom: It’s been very hot and humid lately. I can’t bear it much more. When is the rany season going to finish?
(このごろとてもジメジメして蒸し暑い。もう耐えられません。いつ梅雨は終わるんですか？)
Isoko: It usually lasts until the middle of July although it depends on the year.
(年によって違いますが、いつもだいたい7月の半ば頃終わりますよ。)
Tom: The middle of July, then it’s going to be another month. I can’t stand it.
(7月半ば、だったらまだ一か月もあるんだ。我慢できないな。)
Isoko: You know, Tom. After the rainy season, it’ll be even more hot and humid.
(あのねトムさん、梅雨が明けたら更にジメジメして蒸し暑いですよ。)
Tom: Oh God, give me a break!
(えぇ、かんべんしてくれよ！)

（３）トムさんは自治会主催の防火訓練に参加したようです。

Tom: Hello Isoko. I had an interesting experience on Sunday.
(磯子さんこんにちは。日曜日に面白い体験をしました。)
Isoko: What’s that?
(何ですか？)
Tom: A man from the fire brigade came and showed us how to use the hydrants.
(消防団の男の人が来て、消火栓の使い方を見せてくれました。)
Isoko: Hydrants? What are they?
(消火栓？それは何ですか？)
Tom: Those pipes under the road where you can get water to put out fires.
(道路の下にあるパイプで、火事を消すために水を引くものです。)
Isoko: Really?
(本当ですか？)
Tom: You know there are lots of man-holes around Ishigamidai, right?
(石神台じゅうにマンホールがたくさんあるのを知っているでしょう？)
Isoko: Yes, but I thought they were for sewage pipes.
(はい、でもそれらは下水のパイプだと思っていました。)
Tom: Most of them are, but a few have yellow squares painted around them! They are the hydrants. If there’s a fire, you can get a special tool from one of those red boxes in the street and use it to open the manhole. Then you can attach the hose pipe that’s also in the red box, and use it to put out the fire!
(殆どはそうですが、周りに四角く黄色いペンキが塗ってあるものが少しあるんです！それらは消火栓なんですよ。もし火事が起きたら特別な道具を道路にある赤い箱からとり出してそのマンホールを開けるためにつかうことができます。そしてやはり赤い箱の中にあるホースを繋いで消火のために使うんです。)
Isoko: That’s amazing! I really didn’t know that.
(それはすごいですね！まったく知りませんでした。)
Tom: Now you do!
(今は知っていますね！)

（２）トムさんは巡回パトロールの拍子木の音が気になったようです。

Tom: Isoko, what’s that clapping noise I hear in the morning and evening?
(磯子さん、朝夕カチカチ聞こえるあの音は何ですか？)
Isoko: That sound is made by wooden sticks called hyoshigi.
(あの音は拍子木という木の棒を鳴らしている音です。)
Tom: Oh, now I remember — I’ve seen people walking around Ishigamidai wearing red jackets and carrying wood clappers. Why do they do it?
(あぁ、今思い出しました。赤いジャケットを着て木の棒をぶら下げている人たちを見たことあります。なぜそれをするんですか？)
Isoko: They are volunteers called the Guardians. They make that  noise to scare away burglars.
(彼らはガーディアンというボランティアの人たちです。強盗を寄せ付けないためにあの音を鳴らしています。)
Tom: Oh,I see. Well it seems to be working! I’ve never heard of any crime in Ishigamidai. In the part of England where my parents live, there are lots of burglaries.
(あぁそうですか。いやぁそれは効果ありますね！今まで石神台での犯罪については聞いたことがありません。私の両親が住んでいるイギリスの地方では、たくさん強盗がありますよ。)

（１）週末の美化キャンペーンにトムさんの奥さんが参加してくれたようです。

Isoko: Hi Tom, I saw your wife at the Ishigamidai weeding day last week. She said you were still in bed!
(トムさん、先週の草むしりの日に奥様にお会いしました。トムさんはお寝坊だと言っていましたよ。)
Tom: Haha, sorry about that! My wife told me about it. I think it’s very good for the residents to do volunteer weeding. We don’t have that custom in England. That must be why Ishigamidai is so clean and tidy.
(ハハ、悪かったね。その話は妻に聞きました。地域の住民がボランティアで草むしりをするのはとてもいいことですね。イギリスではそのような習慣はありません。だから石神台はこんなに綺麗できちんとしているでしょうね。)
Isoko: I think so. Why don’t you join in next time?
(そうだと思います。次回参加したらどうですか？)
Tom: I should join in. I want to join in. But I don’t usually get up before 8am.
(参加すべきですね。参加したいし。でも普段は8時まで起きませんね…)

（４）トムさんが近所の散策をしたいと磯子さんに相談します。

Tom: Hi Isoko, My family and I are hoping to get to know this are a bit better. Can you  recommend somewhere nice to go for a walk?
(磯子さん、私と家族はこの地域をもっと良く知りたいと思っています。どこか素敵な散歩コースのお勧めはありますか？)
Isoko: I recommend Joyama park. It’s a 30 minute walk from here.
(城山公園をお勧めします。ここから歩いて30分ぐらいです。)
Tom: Oh, that’s just right. We’ll get some good exercise but we won’t get too tired. Thank you.
(あぁ、それはちょうどいい。いい運動になるけど、疲れ過ぎないですね。ありがとうございます。)

（３）この時期、国府祭(こうのまち)に向けての太鼓の音が響いています。トムさんはこの音が気になるようです。

Tom: Hi Isoko. Is that the sound of the drums I hear?
(こんにちは磯子さん。あの聞こえてくるのは太鼓の音ですか？)
Isoko: Yes. A festival called Kounomachi is taking place at Banba-park today.
(はい。今日、馬場公園で国府祭というお祭りが開催されています。)
Tom: Oh, that sounds very interesting. I’ll take my family along this afternoon.
(へぇ、それは興味深い。今日の午後、家族を連れて行ってみます。)

（２）磯子さんがトムさんにGWをどう過ごしたか尋ねます。

Isoko: Did you have a long holiday during Golden Week?
(ゴールデンウィークは長い休暇がありましたか？)
Tom: Yes, I had a nine-day holiday.
(はい、９連休でした。)
Isoko: Did you go somewhere?
(どこか行きましたか？)
Tom: Yes, we went to Hakone and took a ride on the pirate ship on Lake Ashi.
(はい、私たちは箱根に行って芦ノ湖で海賊船に乗りました。)
Isoko: That sounds fun.
(楽しそうですね。)
Tom: It was fun.
(楽しかったです。)

（１）磯子さんは今年オープンガーデンに参加するため、お庭のお花をお手入れしています。

Tom: You’ve got some lovely flowers here. I can see you’ve been working hard on your garden.
(素敵な花がありますね。お庭を頑張ってやってるのがわかります。)
Isoko: Thank you. That’s because I’m taking part in the Oiso open garden this year.
(ありがとうございます。今年は大磯オープンガーデンに参加するからです。)
Tom: I see. When is that?
(そうですか。それはいつですか？)
Isoko: It’s on twice, from April the 26th to the 28th, and then from May the 10th to the 12th.
(2回あります。4月26日から28日までと、5月10日から12日までです。)
Tom: I see. I look forward to visiting some lovely gardens including yours.
(わかりました。あなたの庭も含めて、素敵なお庭を訪問するのを楽しみにしています。)
Isoko: Thank you.
(ありがとうございます。)

（４）磯子さんはトムさんに子供達について尋ねます。

Isoko:How old are your daughters?
(娘さんのたちは何歳ですか？)
Tom:Well, my oldest daughter is 19 years old, my second is 17 and my youngest is 15. How old are your kids?
(はい、一番上の娘は19歳、2番目は17歳、3番目は15歳です。)
Isoko: My son is 15 years old and my daughter is 10.
(私の息子は15歳で娘は10歳です。)
Tom: I see. Well, I hope they’ll all be good friends together.
(そうですか。まぁ、彼らはみんないい友達になるといいですね。)

（３）トムさんが磯子さんに家族について尋ねます。

Tom: Please tell me about your family. How many of you are there?
(あなたの家族について教えてください。何人家族ですか？)
Isoko: I have my husband, a son and a daughter. There are 4 of us. How about you?
(夫と息子ひとり、娘ひとりの4人家族です。あなたはどうですか？)
Tom: I have my wife, three daughters and a dog called Sally.
(私は妻と娘3人とサリーという犬が一匹います。)

（２）磯子さんがトムさんにどこから来たのか尋ねます。

Isoko:Whrer are you from?
(どこから来ましたか？)
Tom:I’m from England. I’ve come to Japan for my job. This is our first time in Japan.
(イギリスから来ました。日本には仕事で来ました。私たち家族は日本に来たのは初めてです。)
Isoko:Welcome to Japan.
(日本へようこそ)
Tom:Thank you very much.
(どうもありがとうございます。)

（１）ご主人(トムさん)が挨拶に来ます。

Tom: Hello, I’ve moved into this house with my family. My name is Tom.
(こんにちは。この家に家族と引っ越してきました。トムです。)
Isoko:Nice to meet you,Tom. My name is Isoko. I’m living next door.
(初めまして、トムさん。私は磯子です。隣の家に住んでいます。)
Tom: Nice to meet you, Isoko.
